Engagement Rate Calculator
Calculate social media engagement rate for Instagram, TikTok, YouTube & Twitter
What is the Engagement Rate Calculator?
Engagement rate measures how actively an audience interacts with content, relative to its reach. Follower count tells you how many people could see something; engagement rate tells you how many actually respond. Marketers, brands, and creators use it to evaluate content performance, compare accounts for influencer campaigns, and spot whether an audience is genuinely active or largely passive. CalciHub's calculator takes interactions and reach (or follower count) and returns the rate as a percentage.
How Does It Work?
The most common formula divides total interactions by total followers (or impressions), then multiplies by 100. Interactions usually include likes, comments, shares, and saves — depending on the platform.
Engagement Rate = (Total Interactions / Total Followers) × 100
• Total Interactions = likes + comments + shares + saves (platform-dependent)
• Total Followers = the account's follower count at time of posting
• Result = percentage showing the share of followers who engaged
How to Use CalciHub's Engagement Rate Calculator
1. Enter the total number of interactions on the post or period.
2. Enter the total follower count (or reach/impressions, depending on which metric you prefer).
3. Click Calculate.
4. The output shows the engagement rate as a percentage.
Tip: Engagement rate by reach is generally more meaningful than by followers because it measures how people responded among those who actually saw the content — not just those who might have.
A Quick Example
A creator posts a photo on Instagram. It gets 850 likes, 45 comments, and 30 saves. Their account has 12,000 followers.
• Total Interactions = 850 + 45 + 30 = 925
• Followers = 12,000
• Engagement Rate = (925 / 12,000) × 100 = 7.71%
A 7.71% engagement rate is well above average for Instagram — where 1–3% is typical for most accounts. This creator's audience is noticeably active, which makes them more attractive to brands than someone with 50,000 followers and a 0.5% rate.
Frequently Asked Questions
It varies by platform and audience size. On Instagram, 1–3% is average; above 6% is strong. On TikTok, rates tend to be higher — 5–9% is common for mid-size accounts. Micro-influencers (under 10k followers) often have higher rates than large accounts.
