What is the Calories Burned Calculator?

This calculator tells you how many calories you burn during a specific activity based on your body weight, the type of exercise, and how long you did it. Whether you went for a 40-minute run, spent an hour swimming laps, or just took a brisk walk around the neighborhood — the number matters if you're trying to manage your weight or fuel your training properly. CalciHub's version uses MET values (Metabolic Equivalent of Task), the same method used in exercise science research, to give you an estimate you can actually rely on.

How Does It Work?

The calculation uses a value called MET — basically a number assigned to each activity that reflects how much harder it is than sitting still. Running has a much higher MET than walking. Multiply that by your weight and the duration, and you get calories burned.

Calories Burned = MET x Weight (kg) x Duration (hours)

MET = metabolic equivalent for the chosen activity (e.g., jogging = 7.0, cycling = 6.0)

Weight = your body weight in kilograms

Duration = time spent doing the activity in hours

How to Use CalciHub's Calories Burned Calculator

1. Select your activity from the dropdown menu.

2. Enter your body weight (you can switch between kg and lbs).

3. Input the duration of your workout in minutes.

4. Hit Calculate — your calorie burn appears instantly.

5. Use the results to compare activities or plan your workout week.

Tip: Heavier individuals burn more calories doing the same activity for the same duration. If you're tracking for weight loss, log your actual body weight, not a target weight.

A Quick Example

John, a 35-year-old software developer in Austin, Texas, starts training for a 5K. He runs for 30 minutes at a moderate pace, about 6 mph.

Inputs: Activity = Running (6 mph), Weight = 82 kg, Duration = 30 minutes (0.5 hours)

MET for running at 6 mph = 9.8

Calories Burned = 9.8 x 82 x 0.5 = 401.8 calories

Result: Approximately 402 calories burned.

That's a solid burn for half an hour. Knowing this helps John decide whether he needs to eat a little more on training days or whether his current diet already accounts for the extra output.

Frequently Asked Questions

It's a solid estimate, not an exact measurement. MET values are averages from population studies, so individual metabolism, fitness level, and exercise form all affect the actual number. For most planning purposes — weight management, fuelling workouts — the estimate is accurate enough to be useful.
