What is the Grade Calculator?
A grade calculator figures out your overall course grade based on how different assignments, tests, and projects are weighted. Most courses don't treat every assignment equally, a midterm might count for 30%, participation for 10%, and the final exam for 40%. If you want to know where you actually stand before results are official, or what score you need on the final to pass, this is the tool. How Does It Work?
Weighted grade calculation multiplies each score by its weight in the course, then sums the results.
Formula:
Overall Grade = Σ (Score × Weight) ÷ Σ Weight
For a final exam scenario:
Needed Final Score = (Target Grade, Current Weighted Average) ÷ Final Exam Weight
Score: your percentage score on each component
Weight: the percentage that component counts toward the final grade

Tip: If your syllabus lists weights as fractions (like 1/3 each), convert them to percentages first, they need to total 100% for the calculation to be accurate.
A Quick Example
A student wants to know what they need on the final exam to finish the course with a B (80%).
Homework (20%): scored 88 — weighted: 17.6
Midterm (30%): scored 74 — weighted: 22.2
Quizzes (15%): scored 91 — weighted: 13.65
Final Exam (35%): not yet taken
Current weighted total: 53.45 out of 65%
Needed: (80 − 53.45) ÷ 0.35 = 26.55 ÷ 0.35 = 75.86
Output: They need at least a 75.9% on the final exam to earn a B.

Frequently Asked Questions
The calculator normalises them automatically — it divides each weight by the total, so proportions stay correct. Still, it's worth double-checking your syllabus, since missing a graded component from the list will affect your result.
Enter only the completed assignments with their scores and weights. The calculator shows what your current grade would be if those were the only assignments counted and separately shows what remaining score you need on pending work to hit your goal.
A simple average treats every score equally. A weighted average gives different components different importance. If your final exam is worth 40% of your grade, one bad test score matters a lot more than a homework assignment worth 5%.
Yes. The calculator works with any numeric score. If you want to know whether you land in A-, B+, or B territory, just compare your calculated percentage to your school's grading scale, which is usually listed in the course syllabus.
Rearrange the weighting. Subtract the marks you have already banked from your target, then divide by the final's weight. If you have 60 out of a possible 70 and want 80 overall, you need 20 from a 30-weight final, which is 67 percent. A required score above 100 means the grade is out of reach.
