Date Difference
Add / Subtract from a Date
What is the Date Difference Calculator?
The Date Difference Calculator finds the gap between any two dates — how many days, weeks, months, or years separate them. People use it when counting down to events, calculating contract durations, figuring out how long a project took, or checking how many days until a deadline. CalciHub's version handles any date range you throw at it and breaks the result into multiple units so you can read it whichever way is most useful.
How Does It Work?
The calculator subtracts the earlier date from the later date to find the total number of days, then converts that figure into other units.
Difference = End Date − Start Date
From the raw day count:
• Weeks = total days ÷ 7
• Months = approximate, based on average month length or exact calendar counting
• Years = total days ÷ 365.25 (to account for leap years)
The calculator can count from either direction — it doesn't care which date you enter first.
How to Use CalciHub's Date Difference Calculator
1. Enter your start date in the first field.
2. Enter your end date in the second field.
3. Click Calculate.
4. The result shows the difference in days, weeks, months, and years.
Tip: You can include or exclude the end date itself. If you're calculating a work contract where the last day counts, toggle "include end date" on — it adds one day to the total.
A Quick Example
A freelancer started a project on January 5, 2024, and delivered it on April 22, 2024.
Start date: January 5, 2024
End date: April 22, 2024
Result:
108 days
15 weeks and 3 days
3 months and 17 days
The freelancer uses the 108-day figure to calculate their daily rate against the total fee and confirm the billing is correct before sending the invoice.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. If the date range spans a leap year, February 29 is counted as a normal calendar day in the total.
CalciHub's Date Difference Calculator currently shows calendar days. For business-day-only calculations, a separate working-days tool would be the right fit.
It works for any historically valid date range — centuries apart if needed. There's no maximum limit on the gap between the two dates.
Months don't have a fixed number of days, so converting a raw day count to months involves rounding. The calculator shows both an exact day count and an approximate month count to avoid ambiguity.
