What is the Hours Calculator?

The Hours Calculator figures out how many hours and minutes fall between a start time and an end time — and can total multiple shifts across a week or pay period. It's the tool people reach for when filling out timesheets, verifying payroll, tracking billable hours for clients, or adding up part-time shift totals. CalciHub's version lets you enter multiple start/end pairs and get a cumulative total, which makes weekly timesheet calculations straightforward.

How Does It Work?

For each shift, the calculator subtracts the start time from the end time to get a duration. If multiple shifts are entered, the durations are summed.

Shift duration = End time − Start time

Weekly total = Σ (all shift durations)

If a shift crosses midnight — for example, 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM — the calculator adds 24 hours to the end time before subtracting, so the result is a correct 8-hour shift rather than a negative number.

How to Use CalciHub's Hours Calculator

1. Enter your start time for the first shift (in 12-hour or 24-hour format).

2. Enter the end time for that shift.

3. Add more shifts using the "Add row" option if needed.

5. Each row shows its individual duration, and the bottom of the table shows the grand total.

Tip: If you take an unpaid break, subtract it manually from the relevant shift's end time, or enter the shift in two parts (before and after the break) and let the calculator add them.

A Quick Example

A part-time worker wants to total their hours for the week.

Monday: 9:00 AM – 1:30 PM = 4h 30m

Wednesday: 10:00 AM – 3:45 PM = 5h 45m

Friday: 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM = 3h 30m

Total: 13 hours 45 minutes

At a rate of $18/hour, that's $247.50 for the week. The calculator gives the time total; the multiplication is easy once you have the right number.
